Annual Survey 2015-2016 - Member Plan (SLMPE)

For the 2015-2016 school year, the SLS Annual Survey was the Member Plan, using the School Library Media Program Evaluation (SLMPE) rubric.  To see the actual survey and accompanying documents, see the "Member Plan Survey 2015-2016" box (below).

This survey is done by school librarians and their building administrators every 5 years as required by New York State Education.  More information can be found at

Results of the survey help to guide future professional development for school librarians as well as communications with building and district administrators regarding their library programs.

Member Plan Survey 2015-2016

The Member Plan must be completed by all districts every 5 years.  The last Member Plan was completed in 2010-2011, and will be done again in 2015-2016.

We use the statewide School Library Media Program Evaluation (SLMPE) rubric as the Member Plan for WSWHE BOCES.  All Member Plan evaluations must be completed no later than June 15, 2016 in order to have results submitted to State Ed.

Communications Coordinators Meetings 2016-2017

Our General Membership meeting on October 19, 2016 was attended by 53 librarians from WSWHE BOCES!  The morning included a short, live tutorial from TeachingBooks (2 webinars to follow - see handouts below) and presentations from the following:

  • Kathy Gundrum and Emily Wager from CDLC (see PowerPoint and handouts below)
  • Marie Rossi with updates on MLA-8 and NoodleTools (handout below)
  • Jen Duchaussee and Kim Nemeth on collecting and organizing database stats (PowerPoint below)

We also covered a LOT of topics with updates on everything from Cooperative Collection to Professional Development.

The afternoon focused on the results of the SLMPE rubric as the Member Plan from Spring 2016, with smaller groups discussing questions from each of the 3 areas (Teaching for Learning, Building the Learning Environment, and Empowering Learning Through Leadership) with suggestions for ways to improve Essential Elements which charted low across our region.  (PowerPoint for the day below).
